School districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies must provide an annual $1,800 bonus to teachers of mathematics, science, or special education in schools where at least 50% of enrolled pupils are eligible for federal free or reduced-price lunch programs.

Existing collective bargaining agreements in effect at the time of enactment that prevent compliance with the bonus requirement are exempt until after the agreement expires.

The state department of education shall reimburse schools for costs incurred under this requirement, subject to appropriation.

The act takes effect 90 days after enactment.
