Grandfathers existing sabbatical leave service credits granted before September 29, 2017 at 5 p.m. EDT, allowing members to maintain eligibility if they return to the same reporting unit and earn 1 or more years of subsequent service.

Prohibits new sabbatical leave service credit purchases initiated after September 29, 2017 at 5 p.m. EDT.

Eliminates service credit eligibility for employee organization professional services leave and released time effective upon passage of this amendment, ending prior provisions that allowed such credits.

Requires members or public school employee organizations to reimburse reporting units on a current basis for amounts the reporting unit pays to the retirement board for professional services leave or released time.

Effective 90 days after enactment.
