Amends Part 3116 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (1994 PA 451) regarding water pollution exemptions for mining operations.

Exempts ferrous and nonferrous mining operations from water pollution regulations for mineral tailings placement, removal, use, or processing in inland waters on operator-controlled bottomlands, except when waste or waste effluent discharges into state waters.

Exempts discharge of water from underground ferrous and nonferrous mining operations from pollution regulations unless waste or waste effluent discharges into state waters.

Limits the exemption when an inland lake or stream flows both into and out of the operator-controlled inland waters directly into state waters.

Effective August 21, 2018.
