Allows school boards to hire noncertificated, nonendorsed teachers in computer science, foreign languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, robotics, and other state-approved subjects for grades 9-12 if they hold a bachelor's degree with a major in their subject area and have at least 2 years of occupational experience in that field.

Permits continued employment of noncertificated teachers only if they are enrolled in an approved teacher preparation program leading to a provisional teaching certificate and have a planned path to full certification on file with the school district, teacher preparation institution, and state education department.

Allows noncertificated teachers who complete 3 years of successful classroom teaching to have student teaching waived as a requirement for receiving a provisional teaching certificate.

Maintains requirements for certificated teachers to pass subject area examinations and reading credit requirements, with out-of-state teachers holding valid certificates for at least 3 years able to receive Michigan certification with comparable endorsements without retaking exams if they meet specified education requirements.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment, with an effective date of September 25, 2018.
