Restructures the notification requirements for claims against the state by moving verification requirements from subsection (1) to a new subsection (4), requiring signature and verification before an authorized officer.

Requires claimants to file claims or notices of intention within 6 months after the event giving rise to the claim for property damage or personal injury cases, rather than within 1 year.

Clarifies that claimants must furnish copies of claims to the attorney general and relevant state departments, commissions, boards, institutions, or agencies at the time of filing.

Exempts claims for compensation under the Wrongful Imprisonment Compensation Act (2016 PA 343, MCL 691.1751-691.1757) from the notification and statute of limitations requirements in both sections 6431 and 6452.

Applies the amendments retroactively to March 29, 2017.
