SB 938 Summary

• Amends Michigan's firearm licensing law (1927 PA 372) to add extreme risk protection orders as a disqualification for obtaining or retaining a pistol license.

• Prohibits individuals subject to an extreme risk protection order from purchasing, carrying, possessing, or transporting pistols in Michigan.

• Requires the Department of State Police to notify individuals when they are entered into the law enforcement information network due to an extreme risk protection order and inform them they cannot obtain a concealed pistol license until the order is removed.

• Allows individuals subject to such orders to request amendment or expungement of information from the law enforcement information network if they are no longer subject to the order.

• Takes effect only if Senate Bill 937 is also enacted into law (creates a tie bar between the two bills).
