Senate Bill 977 Summary

• Allows eligible voters to register and vote on election day by applying in person to the clerk or assistant clerk at polling places.

• Requires city, township, or village clerks or their assistants to be present at polling places during all voting hours to accept registration applications.

• Removes the prohibition on same-day voter registration that was previously in effect 30 days before elections, allowing registration up to and including election day.

• Establishes procedures for same-day registration including sworn statements, oath-taking, qualification verification, and immediate issuance of registration cards to allow voters to cast ballots the same day.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment into law.
