HB 5048 Summary

• Requires the Department of Natural Resources to submit an annual report to the legislature by March 1 regarding its asbestos program.

• Report must include for the previous calendar year: number of inspectors employed, number of inspections conducted, percentage of original notifications for which inspections were conducted, and number of enforcement actions taken.

• Requires an evaluation and recommendation on whether the department has sufficient inspectors to carry out the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants program for asbestos under 40 CFR part 61, subpart M, with a minimum sufficiency threshold of at least 15% of notifications receiving inspections.

• Report shall be posted on the department's website and published in the Michigan Register, and may be combined with the report required under section 5522.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
