HB 5313 Summary

• Amends vehicle registration tax provisions in Michigan law to increase registration fees for electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles starting January 1, 2017.

• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles: registration fee increased by $30.00 for vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and $100.00 for vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds.

• Electric vehicles: registration fee increased by $100.00 for vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and $200.00 for vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds.

• If the gasoline tax increases above 19 cents per gallon, the electric vehicle fees increase by $5.00 per each additional cent, and plug-in hybrid fees increase by $2.50 per each additional cent.

• Effective September 29, 2020, contingent upon enactment of House Bill 5195.
