HB5408 Summary

• Amends MCL 400.109f to establish fee-for-service Medicaid reimbursement for physicians, advanced practice providers, and nonphysician practitioners treating patients with a primary diagnosis of alcohol use disorder.

• Requires the department to provide fee-for-service payment for evaluation and management services, consultation services, and related care when a Medicaid beneficiary has alcohol use disorder as their primary diagnosis.

• Defines "advanced practice provider" as a health care provider with prescriptive authority under Michigan's public health code.

• Defines "nonphysician practitioner" as an individual licensed or certified in Michigan to provide nonphysician behavioral health services, as identified in the department's behavioral health fee schedule.

• Changes language in existing subsections from "shall" to "must" and clarifies that subsections (1) and (2) do not apply to pilot projects authorized under 2017 PA 107.
