HB 5659 Summary

• Creates the Upper Peninsula Natural Resources Commission composed of members appointed by the governor with senate advice and consent, including one representative from each UP state representative, two from each UP state senator, and two from joint nominations.

• Commission members serve 2-year terms without compensation but may be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses; vacancies filled by governor in same manner as original appointments; no more than half may be from same political party.

• Grants commission authority to issue orders or promulgate rules regarding taking of game or sport fish that impact only the Upper Peninsula or have no significant impact outside it.

• Takes effect only upon enactment of companion bills HB 5592, HB 5594, and HB 5593 of the 100th Legislature.
