HB 5774 Summary

• Amends MCL 750.227 to clarify that persons may carry dangerous weapons (daggers, dirks, stilettos, double-edged stabbing instruments) in their dwelling house, place of business, or on land they possess without restriction.

• Permits hunting or fishing knives to be carried without restriction when adapted and carried as such.

• Creates exception allowing concealed pistol carry without a license during periods when both a gubernatorial emergency or disaster declaration is in effect AND concealed pistol license applications are not being processed under MCL 28.425b or 28.425l.

• Maintains existing requirement that licensed pistol carriers comply with all restrictions on their license.

• Retains felony penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment and/or fines up to $2,500 for violations of the concealed weapons provisions.
