HB 5784 Summary

• Adds buildings owned or leased by the state of Michigan to the list of locations where individuals cannot carry concealed pistols, even if they hold a valid concealed pistol license.

• Maintains existing exceptions for retired law enforcement officers, security personnel employed by those entities, private investigators, corrections officers, capitol security officers, sheriff's posse members, auxiliary/reserve officers, court judges, court officers, and peace officers.

• Establishes penalties for violations: civil infraction with up to $500 fine and 6-month license suspension for first offense; misdemeanor with up to $1,000 fine and license revocation for second offense; felony punishable by up to 4 years imprisonment or $5,000 fine with license revocation for third or subsequent offenses.

• Does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 5783 is enacted into law (tie-bar provision).
