Hospitals must post their charge description master (list of standard charges for services and items) on their website by January 1, 2021, and update it annually.

Hospitals without websites must make a written or electronic copy of their charge description master available at the hospital location.

Hospitals must post notices in emergency departments, admissions offices, and billing offices informing patients that the charge description master is available and that posted charges may not reflect actual billed amounts.

Charge description masters cannot include information identifying specific third-party payers or negotiated charges with individual payers.

Hospitals are prohibited from entering into contracts that would prevent them from disclosing their charge description master as required by this section.
