HB5947 Summary

• Authorizes counties, cities, villages, and townships to reproduce ordinances, amendments, and meeting minutes in electronic or digital file formats.

• Permits local governments to dispose of or destroy original ordinances, amendments, and meeting minutes after creating electronic reproductions, subject to section 11 of the Michigan history center act (2016 PA 470, MCL 399.811).

• Requires local government clerks to make electronic or digital reproductions available to the public in the clerk's office during normal business hours if originals are disposed of or destroyed.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent upon passage of Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 5948.
