HB 5967 Summary

• Amends section 7d of the 1941 Fire Prevention Code to update the definition of "consumer fireworks" by removing the reference to the Michigan Fireworks Safety Act and instead referencing former 2011 PA 256.

• Authorizes fire department commanding officers to enforce no-burn restrictions that ban consumer fireworks when environmental fire conditions are extreme or very high for 72 consecutive hours, in consultation with the Department of Natural Resources.

• Allows the governor, Department of Natural Resources, or state fire marshal to enforce statewide no-burn restrictions and fireworks bans under the same conditions.

• Requires fire departments to lift no-burn restrictions and notify the public within 24 hours after fire conditions are downgraded from extreme or very high.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent upon passage of Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. ____ (request no. 07277'20).
