• Establishes the "Prohibition of Volunteer Law Enforcement Act" effective January 1, 2021.

• Prohibits municipalities from using volunteer law enforcement officers in their police, sheriff, or public safety departments.

• Defines volunteer law enforcement officers as unlicensed individuals who perform non-clerical duties without compensation (except expense reimbursement) and are registered with the department.

• Applies to regularly organized law enforcement departments maintained by cities, villages, or townships that have enforcement of state or local laws as their primary purpose.

• Does not affect paid law enforcement officers or civilian clerical and secretarial employees.
