HB5985 Summary

• Requires each city or township clerk to maintain a permanent absent voter list for registered electors who request to be included.

• Allows county, city, or township clerks to mail notices to registered electors informing them they may request placement on the permanent absent voter list.

• Requires all state voter registration applications and absent voter ballot applications to include a space for electors to mark if they wish to be on the permanent absent voter list.

• Authorizes electors to request placement on or removal from the permanent absent voter list through in-person contact, telephone, facsimile, email, or first-class mail to their clerk.

• Automatically sends absent voter ballot applications to all electors on the permanent absent voter list for each election; permits removal of electors who have not requested a ballot in 4 consecutive years.
