HB 6001 Summary

• Authorizes boards of election inspectors to transmit election night results to county clerks by telephone or electronic means (email, facsimile, modem) rather than solely by physical delivery of sealed envelopes.

• Requires county clerks to tabulate and publicly release election results as they are received by telephone or electronic transmission on election night.

• Establishes procedures for "receiving boards" at township or city clerk offices to receive, inspect, and securely store election materials and envelopes in marked transfer cases or containers sealed with certificates.

• Requires township or city clerks to deliver sealed election materials to the judge of probate and county clerk by 11 a.m. the day following the election if materials were not transmitted electronically on election night.

• Allows city or township clerks to transmit election results electronically to the county clerk on election night if board of election inspectors does not or cannot do so.
