• Amends 1905 PA 299 to change the title from "An act to provide for changing and determining the names of divorced women" to "An act to provide for changing and determining the names of divorced individuals."

• Modifies MCL 552.391 to allow any party to a divorce action (not just women) to request restoration of their birth name or previously held surname.

• Changes language from gender-specific terms ("the woman," "her," "husband") to gender-neutral terms ("a party to the action," "his or her," "spouse").

• Permits individuals to adopt a different surname upon divorce if the change is not sought with fraudulent or evil intent.

• Takes effect only if Senate Joint Resolution _____ or House Joint Resolution T of the 100th Legislature is approved and becomes part of the Michigan Constitution.
