HB 6263 Summary

• Amends MCL 768.27c to expand admissibility of hearsay statements describing physical injury or threats in cases involving domestic violence, prostitution, or human trafficking offenses.

• Adds prostitution (MCL 750.448 to 750.462) and human trafficking (MCL 750.462a to 750.762h) violations as qualifying offenses for admitting hearsay statements to law enforcement officers.

• Maintains existing requirements that statements must be made at or near the time of injury or threat, made under trustworthy circumstances, and within 5 years of the current action.

• Requires prosecutors to disclose such hearsay evidence to the defendant at least 15 days before trial or at a later time approved by the court for good cause.
