HB 6402 Summary

• Amends the 1952 Municipal Water Supply Authority Act to allow cities, villages, or townships (individually or in combination) to incorporate water supply authorities by adopting articles of incorporation.

• Changes public notice requirements for articles of incorporation: before January 1, 2022, notice must be published in a newspaper; beginning January 1, 2022, notice must be posted according to the local government public notice act.

• Permits cities, villages, or townships that did not initially join an authority to become part of it through amendment to the articles of incorporation, with approval from all participating municipalities' legislative bodies.

• Replaces archaic language throughout (changing "shall" to "must," "and/or" to "or," "said" to "the," and updating year references from 19__ to 20__ format).

• Takes effect only if Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 6440 is enacted into law.
