HB 6421 Summary

• Amends the Large Carnivore Act (2000 PA 274) to change public notice requirements for seized large carnivores, effective January 1, 2022.

• Replaces newspaper publication notice with certified mail and local government public notice procedures for notifying owners and injured parties of seizure and forfeiture intent.

• Updates references to wildlife sanctuary organizations from "association of sanctuaries" to "American Sanctuary Association" and from "American zoo and aquarium association" to "Association of Zoos and Aquariums."

• Clarifies that forfeiture orders may direct humane euthanization if the large carnivore killed or injured a human or animal, subject to section 10 protections.

• Contingent on enactment of Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 6440 (request no. 02449'19) in the 100th Legislature.
