HB 6470 Summary

• Eliminates copayment fees for prisoners receiving nonemergency medical, dental, or optometric services requested by the prisoner.

• Maintains full cost responsibility for prisoners who intentionally injure themselves and require emergency medical care.

• Requires the department to determine appropriate housing for prisoners who intentionally injure themselves, preferably in facilities with on-site medical treatment capabilities.

• Directs the department director to report to the legislature by September 30, 1997 on the feasibility and cost of implementing housing requirements for self-injured prisoners.
