HB 6524 Summary

• Requires each city or township clerk to maintain a permanent absent voter list for registered electors who request to be placed on it.

• Allows county, city, or township clerks to mail notices to registered electors informing them they may request placement on the permanent absent voter list.

• Requires voter registration applications and absent voter ballot applications to include a checkbox for electors to request placement on the permanent absent voter list.

• Mandates that clerks send absent voter ballot applications to all electors on the permanent absent voter list for each election.

• Permits electors to request removal from the list in writing, and requires automatic removal if the elector dies, if ballot applications are returned as undeliverable, or if the elector has not requested a ballot in any election during the previous 4 consecutive years; automatic continuation of list status applies when an elector changes residence within the state.
