HB 6534 Summary

• Allows school districts and public school academies to notate student transcripts or diplomas with an arts and humanities endorsement in addition to existing STEM endorsements.

• Eligible students must complete Michigan merit standard high school diploma requirements and earn 3 additional credits in English, visual/performing/applied arts, or foreign languages (including American Sign Language).

• Students may complete foreign language credits partially or fully through online coursework and can change or add endorsements at any time during high school.

• Schools offering endorsements must establish a pupil tracking program that includes annual check-ins with school counselors to keep students on track to earn the endorsement.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
