SB 252 Summary

• Amends the Public Health Code to require the Department of Environmental Quality to develop and maintain an interactive electronic map of statewide well water testing results by January 1, 2021.

• Map must display confirmed contaminant test results for arsenic, bacteria, copper, lead, nitrates, trichloroethylene (TCE), PFAS, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with color-coding functionality and concentration shading by geographic area.

• Requires the map website to include links to information sheets containing health hazard information, state and federal drinking water standards for each contaminant, mitigation and treatment methods, and contact information for local health departments and certified testing laboratories.

• Modifies existing well drilling record requirements to clarify that local health departments must share water testing results with the Department of Environmental Quality when contaminants are detected.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
