Senate Bill 606 Summary

• Allows victims (in addition to prosecuting attorneys) to move that their identifying information not be disclosed at pretrial proceedings or trial without consent.

• Expands protection of victim information under the Freedom of Information Act to include all victims of abuse, criminal sexual conduct, and similar crimes (not limited to victims under 18 years old).

• Permits victims of abuse, criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, or similar crimes to use a pseudonym or initials in court files and ordinary court documents.

• Removes the age restriction that previously limited certain protections to child victims, extending confidentiality protections to adult victims of these crimes.

• Makes the same amendments to three sections of the William Van Regenmorter Crime Victim's Rights Act (MCL 780.758, 780.788, and 780.818) covering adult criminal cases, juvenile cases, and victim rights in general.
