Senate Bill No. 622 - Reproductive Health Act

• Establishes fundamental rights to choose or refuse contraception, sterilization, and abortion before fetal viability, or abortion at any time if necessary to protect the pregnant individual's life or health.

• Allows health care professionals to perform abortions before fetal viability and permits abortions after viability only when necessary to protect the pregnant individual's life or health.

• Prohibits prosecution or punishment of pregnant individuals for acts or omissions during pregnancy when the basis relates to the pregnancy or the individual's health.

• Authorizes civil actions for violations of the act with courts awarding reasonable costs and attorney fees to prevailing plaintiffs.

• Repeals existing Michigan abortion restrictions including sections of the Michigan penal code, the legal birth definition act, the public health code provisions on abortion, the parental rights restoration act, and the abortion insurance opt-out act.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment and is contingent on passage of companion Senate Bills 623-628.
