SB 660 Summary

• Prohibits amateur sports organizations, including the NCAA, from preventing student athletes in Michigan from earning compensation for the use of their name, image, or likeness.

• Prohibits amateur sports organizations from penalizing high schools or higher education institutions in Michigan by preventing their participation in athletics if student athletes earn compensation for their name, image, or likeness.

• Prohibits amateur sports organizations from providing direct compensation to student athletes related to their name, image, or likeness, and prohibits them from restricting student athletes' ability to obtain professional representation through athlete agents or attorneys.

• Establishes that scholarships covering cost of attendance are not considered compensation under this act and cannot be revoked due to a student earning compensation or obtaining legal representation.

• Imposes civil fines up to $100,000 for violations; takes effect 90 days after enactment.
