SB 703 Summary

• Expands whistleblower protections under Michigan's Whistleblowers' Protection Act by adding "suspected violation," "planned violation," and "request to participate in or cover up a violation or planned violation" to the types of reports an employee can make without facing employer retaliation.

• Prohibits employers from discharging, threatening, or discriminating against employees regarding compensation, terms, conditions, location, or privileges of employment for reporting these expanded categories of violations to public bodies.

• Maintains the existing protection that employees cannot be retaliated against for participating in investigations, hearings, inquiries, or court actions requested by public bodies.

• Effective 90 days after enactment.
