SB 786 Summary

• Amends the Age of Majority Act of 1971 to supersede all Michigan laws that prescribe different duties, liabilities, responsibilities, rights, and legal capacity for persons ages 18-20 compared to persons age 21 and older.

• Applies the age of majority change to numerous Michigan statutes across property law, vehicle code, worker's compensation, probate code, criminal procedure, and other areas.

• Explicitly exempts the Youth Tobacco Act (1915 PA 31, MCL 722.641-722.645) from these changes, meaning tobacco age restrictions remain unchanged.

• Only takes effect if three companion bills also pass: Senate Bills 782, 783, and 784.
