Senate Bill 835 Summary

• Requires public bodies to separate exempt from nonexempt material in public records and make nonexempt material available for examination and copying.

• Directs public bodies to design records to facilitate separation of exempt and nonexempt information where practicable, with generally described exemptions that do not reveal the exempt contents.

• Authorizes the Attorney General to counsel and advise public bodies on administering the Freedom of Information Act upon request.

• Effective date is January 1, 2021, contingent on Senate Bill 837 of the 100th Legislature being enacted into law.
