SB 875 Summary

• Amends the Michigan merit examination requirements by changing "shall" to "must" throughout MCL 380.1279g for grammatical consistency and modernization of language.

• Incorporates Executive Order No. 2020-35 by reference into the Revised School Code through new section 1851b, with orders and directives remaining in effect for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and beyond as specified in the executive order.

• Adds section 1851c to establish protections for school employees during disaster relief child care center operations through June 1, 2020, requiring schools to first seek voluntary participants before reassigning employees.

• Prohibits schools from requiring employees to work in disaster relief child care centers if they have confirmed COVID-19, display COVID-19 symptoms, are 60 years or older, have underlying health conditions, or have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive person within 14 days.

• Bill effectiveness is conditioned on the enactment of SB 885 of the 100th Legislature.
