SB 898 Summary

• Prohibits health insurers from requiring face-to-face contact for health care services appropriately provided through telemedicine.

• Requires telemedicine services to be provided by a health care professional licensed, registered, or authorized in the state where the patient is located.

• Mandates insurers provide the same coverage for telemedicine services as for face-to-face services, including equal treatment of copayments, coinsurances, deductibles, and approved amounts.

• Expands the definition of "insurer" to include nonprofit dental care corporations under 1963 PA 125 as of December 31, 2017.

• Applies to all health insurance policies delivered, issued, amended, or renewed in Michigan beginning on the effective date of the amendment.
