SB 902 Summary

• Secretary of State may extend operator's or chauffeur's license renewal deadlines and waive late renewal penalties if the license expired during a governor-declared state of disaster or emergency under the 1976 Emergency Management Act.

• Extended licenses remain valid for 60 days after termination of the declared state of disaster or emergency.

• Secretary of State may waive late renewal penalties for licenses that expired up to 1 week before a disaster/emergency declaration if the Secretary of State had already closed its branches.

• Provision does not apply to licenses that were suspended or restricted before the state of disaster or emergency was declared.

• Bill takes effect only if Senate Bills 903 and 904 of the 100th Legislature are also enacted into law.
