SB 1190 Summary

• Extends validity of temporary instruction permits, commercial driver licenses, and hazardous material endorsements that expire between March 1 and September 30, 2020 until September 30, 2020 in response to COVID-19 emergency.

• Waives medical certification requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators from July 1 through December 31, 2020 (extended from September 30, 2020).

• Changes hazardous material endorsement extension period from an additional 180 days to a specific expiration date of October 29, 2020.

• Prohibits assessment of late renewal fees for vehicle registrations and operator's licenses that expire on or after March 1, 2020 and are renewed before December 31, 2020.

• Makes technical corrections including changing references from "shall" to "must" and updating definitions related to driver education courses and teen driver training programs.
