SB 1222 Summary

• Allows military members on active duty, veterans, and their dependents to obtain Michigan health professional licenses without examination if they hold a current license in good standing in another state or country and meet substantially equivalent requirements.

• Establishes expedited temporary licensing (6 months, renewable for 6 additional months) for military spouses and dependents of active duty members or veterans who hold out-of-state health profession licenses.

• Waives application processing fees and initial license fees for veterans (with DD214, DD215, or equivalent documentation showing honorable discharge) and dependents of active duty military members or veterans.

• Adds new definition of "Armed Forces" to state law and expands the scope of military service members eligible for licensing reciprocity to include dependents, not just spouses.

• Effective 90 days after enactment into law.
