SB 1249 Summary

• Removes the prohibition against athlete agents inducing student athletes to enter into agent contracts or professional sport services contracts before the student athlete's collegiate eligibility expires.

• Retains the prohibition against athlete agents giving, offering, or promising anything of value to college/university employees in exchange for referrals of student athletes.

• Maintains criminal penalties for violations as a misdemeanor with fines up to $50,000 or three times the value of the prohibited agreement, whichever is greater, plus possible imprisonment up to 1 year.

• Bill is contingent upon enactment of Senate Bill No. 660, which must be passed for this bill to take effect.
