Removes the work skills test requirement from the Michigan merit examination, which now consists only of a college entrance test and the M-STEP summative assessment.

Eliminates the work skills component that assessed pupils' ability to apply reading and mathematics skills for employment purposes and workforce readiness evaluation.

Adds a social studies component as a required part of the Michigan merit examination alongside English language arts, mathematics, reading, and science assessments.

Requires the department to not mandate administration of certain alternative assessments described in MCL 380.1279i as a condition for districts to receive state aid.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment and is contingent on House Bill No. 4038 of the 101st Legislature being enacted into law.
