School districts and public school academies are encouraged to include a program of instruction in free enterprise and entrepreneurship in their social studies curriculum for grades 9-12, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

The program must be project-based and may cover business vocabulary, entrepreneurs from Michigan and worldwide, goal-setting activities, business basics including taxes and business ownership, and creating a student project-based business plan.

School districts and academies may include this instruction in other subject areas or grade levels beyond the encouragement for grades 9-12 social studies.

"Entrepreneur" is defined as an individual who organizes and operates a business and takes on greater than normal financial risk to do so.

The act takes effect 90 days after enactment; approved by the Governor on March 30, 2022.
