HB4244 Summary

• Reduces maximum sentence for delivery or manufacture of 1,000+ grams of certain Schedule 1 or 2 controlled substances from life imprisonment to 30 years (Class B felony).

• Reduces maximum sentence for delivery or manufacture of 450-999 grams of certain Schedule 1 or 2 controlled substances from 30 years to 20 years (Class B felony).

• Adds new Class A-D felony provisions for heroin, fentanyl, and carfentanil offenses with maximum sentences ranging from life imprisonment (1,000+ grams) down to 20 years (less than 50 grams).

• Adds new Class A-D felony provisions for delivery or manufacture of certain opiates with maximum sentences ranging from life imprisonment (1,000+ grams) down to 10 years (less than 50 grams).

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment and is conditional on passage of related legislation (SB____ or HB4243).
