MI HB4813

Requires fact checkers meeting specific criteria to register with the Michigan Secretary of State, including those paid by organizations affiliated with national/international fact-checking networks, members of the International Fact Check Network, publishing material in Michigan, and holding themselves out as fact checkers.

Mandates fact checkers file proof of a fidelity bond of at least $1,000,000.00 at the time of registration.

Allows affected parties to bring civil actions in district court to claim the bond upon demonstrating wrongful conduct violating Michigan law, with venue proper in any county regardless of the defendant's location.

Provides that prevailing affected parties receive treble damages, costs, and reasonable attorney fees in civil actions under the act.

Imposes civil fines of not less than $1,000.00 per day for each day a violation continues and takes effect only if HB 4814 is enacted into law.
