HB 4990 Summary

• Expands list of crimes for which juveniles must be sentenced as adults to include first degree arson (previously limited to arson of a dwelling).

• Eliminates provisions requiring juveniles committed to youth rehabilitation institutions to reimburse the court for costs of care, services, and attorney fees.

• Removes authority for courts to intercept state tax refunds or federal income tax refunds to recover delinquency costs for juveniles in care.

• Updates terminology throughout the statute, replacing "shall" with "must" and updating agency names (Family Independence Agency to Department of Health and Human Services).

• Takes effect July 1, 2022.
