Adds Section 58 to Chapter XVII of the Michigan Code of Criminal Procedure to create "prior record variable 8" focused on civic engagement and employment history.

Allows courts to reduce a defendant's prior record variable score by up to 5 points if the defendant was honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces or successfully completed service in AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps.

Permits reduction of up to 5 points if the defendant is currently employed or has a work history showing substantial community contribution during prior employment.

Allows reduction of up to 5 points if the defendant is unemployed or underemployed but demonstrates substantial efforts to seek employment, defined as registering with Michigan Works at least 30 days before sentencing, applying for at least 20 jobs in 30 days, or having a current job offer.

Prohibits scoring under this variable if the defendant was charged with medical malpractice or if the crime victim was the defendant's employer; takes effect 90 days after enactment.
