District judges receive an annual salary from the state calculated under this section, with additional supplemental salary possible from district funding units where they regularly hold court.

Until September 30, 2022, district judges receive a minimum salary equal to 84% of the Supreme Court justice salary as of December 31, 2015, minus $45,724.00, plus $45,724.00 from district funding units, plus cost-of-living adjustments tied to state executive and administrator pay increases since January 1, 2016.

Beginning October 1, 2022, district judges receive an annual salary equal to that of a probate judge as calculated under section 821(2), establishing a new salary structure.

Supplemental salaries from district funding units must be uniform for all judges regularly holding court in that unit, and total compensation cannot exceed the maximum allowed salary.

Judges holding court outside their county of residence are reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses; salaries may increase but not decrease during a term except through general government-wide reductions.
