MI HB5895

Establishes the "Michigan Legislative Civilian Medal Act" to create the Michigan Legislative Medal of Freedom as the highest civilian medal of the state.

Medal may be awarded to living or deceased individuals for valorous or heroic deeds in saving a life, or for injury, death, or threat thereof incurred in service to the state, community, or for the health, welfare, or safety of other individuals.

Legislative Council Administrator receives and evaluates medal nominations submitted by the public through a dedicated website or by House and Senate members, determining if nominees meet medal requirements.

Legislature awards the medal by concurrent resolution, with the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader presenting the medal in the presence of sponsoring legislators and the recipient's district representative and senator.

Bill takes effect only upon enactment of companion bills HB 5897, HB 5896, and one additional bill (Senate Bill number unspecified).
