Michigan Public Service Commission shall hire an outside consulting firm to conduct a feasibility study on nuclear energy generation in the state.

Study must examine advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy, including economic and environmental impacts, and ways to maximize use of Michigan workers and products in facility construction.

Study shall evaluate design characteristics, environmental impacts, land siting criteria, safety criteria, engineering and cost factors, and small modular reactor capability.

Study must include socioeconomic assessment covering workforce education and training, tax base impacts, supply chains, and job creation; timeline for development; coordination with other clean energy technologies; and review of national and international nuclear energy cases.

Commission must deliver written report to the governor, legislative leaders, and relevant committee chairs no later than 18 months after the bill's effective date of October 14, 2022.
