Beginning January 1, 2024, county boards of commissioners may allow county road commissioners to be elected from single-member districts instead of at-large in counties where commissioners are elected.

County apportionment commissions must establish single-member districts equal to the number of road commissioners, using latest federal decennial census figures to create compact, contiguous districts with equal population.

County apportionment commissions must reapportion road commission districts after each decennial census beginning with the 2020 census to maintain compact, contiguous, and equally populated districts.

When filling vacancies in single-member district seats, the county board of commissioners must appoint a replacement from the same district where the vacancy occurred.

Bill takes effect only if Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 6093 is also enacted into law.
