Electric utilities must provide a bill credit up to $500 for customers who purchase generators if service is not restored within 72 hours of an interruption.

Customers must apply for the bill credit in a form and manner prescribed by the Michigan Public Service Commission.

Any unused bill credit balance automatically carries forward to subsequent billing cycles until fully expended.

Electric utilities are prohibited from recovering expenses related to these credits in rate increase applications, and the Public Service Commission cannot allow such cost recovery.
